Horde Wave 50!
I should mention that I have made it through wave 50, but only by restarting at the current level when my entire team was beaten. I’m still working towards beating all 50 waves in a public match without having to restart.
It seems like it is getting harder and harder to find a good team in the public forum. Almost every time somebody quits, people don’t talk, or you get teamed up with a smart mouthed 8 year old.
GOW2 Dark Corners Map Pack
I purchased the dark corners map pack this weekend. I haven’t really gotten into playing it yet, but will try to add some posts about it in the next week.
Horde Friday Night!
There is going to be some crazy horde action Friday night and I’m looking forward to it. I swear if I get another group that drops out or another group of 9 year olds I’m going to snap my GOW2 disc in half. Its getting ridiculous. Oh, and thanks to the group that left me in wave 10 on day one a few weeks ago. No, I didn’t get beat on wave 10, I played by myself until wave 14 and gave up because it was boring playing alone. But thanks for giving up on the game as soon as you got beat. Quitters suck.
Oh So Close!!!
We made it to wave 40 on Friday. We first had a great group playing together on River and we made it pretty far. In the end to horde chased us inside the building which faces upstream. I think the best defense may be to set shields in the doorway to keep back maulers and have two more players holding shields immediately behind them. Follow this up with the other three players shooting over them from the ramp and walkway in the back of the building. It is important to stay spread out to keep from getting killed by the boomers.
Upstream and downstream are great ways of identifying the direction of the horde. Used in combination with near, far or river ramp helps pinpoint the horde location. This is very important when calling out targets for the mortarer.
Later on we played Jacinto with the same group. We also did a great job on this map until wave 40. We took shelter at the top of the stairs. We were pushed back by maulers, grinders and boomers and were all finally killed at the top of the stairs. We needed to take flight earlier once they got our shields down. We didn’t have enough time to run once they got through.
Wave 49!
We made it to wave 49 last night on River by creating a private party and starting at wave 35 after making it past wave 35 as a group on Day One. Everyone did a good job planting shields and reviving each other. Everyone also did a great job switching between weapons and getting to cover when necessary. No Rambos, just teamwork. Our group included nosaj625, mahleea, Turner Joy, Sally the Clown and N3RDI3. Holding the shields in the barn doorway and getting to the mortar before the end of each round was very important. We had a good mix of weapons on our team which also helped a lot. Great job everybody!
Horde Etiquette
Horde Etiquette
I would like to propose a few points of etiquette when playing Horde.
1. Don’t start a game if you can’t finish it – This is the biggest annoyance when playing a public game of Horde. You’ll have a good game going and all of a sudden you’ll notice someone drop off. Going from five people to four is a huge disadvantage, none-the-less if another person drops at wave 33 to leave only three people (you know who I’m talking about).
2. TALK – Communication is key in making it far in Horde. If you don’t have a headset, get one. If you’re in a party, make sure you are in Game Chat. Tell your teammates what is coming, where you are when you go down, if you need ammo after a wave, confirm who is grabbing what shield at the end of the wave, etc.
3. Don’t be Rambo – I realize it is fun to see how many kills you can get each round, but don’t go running around solo all over the map. While in the early rounds you might be able to get away with it, it will catch up with you quickly. And when you are yelling to have someone come revive you, nobody wants to risk themselves to help a loner.
I will now get off of my soapbox and look forward to playing tomorrow night.
This looks like a good article…

Favorite GOW2 Horde Maps
Our favorite maps are River and Day One.
On River we always stick to the bridge and the house facing upstream. Someone mans the mortar and the rest of the crew protects the mortaree. The mortar is key do doing well on this map. In later levels the mortar needs to be picked up and brough back in front of the house so there is a smaller area to defend. In early stages of River, a sniper or two in the top of the house work well, but later levels make it very hard to snipe without being sniped or blown up by a boomer.
Sheilds are also key on River. When the bloodmounts appear in rounds 10, 20, 30… the sheilds in the doorway are necessary. It is easy for a drone, genadier, cyclopes to kick the sheilds down. Instead of planting them it has worked much better for two people to hold the sheilds in the doorway while using a pistol. Others stand back further in the house and fire over the sheilds as well. One person stays up sniping and also serves as a medic when needed. If the sheilds fall during round 10, 20, 30… then there is little chance of surviving the wave. The bloodmounts and maulers are hard to fight back and there is nowhere to run. It is also very important for the rest of the team to shoot over the shoulders of the sheild bearers to make sure a mauler doesn’t take them out. The rest of the horde can be held off in this manner (or at least in the rounds I have made it through). There should probably be 4 sheilds in the lower part of the house to help hold off the horde in case one of the first two sheild bearers fall. It is also important to never run for ammo during the start of those rounds (you most likely won’t make it back). Save the pistol ammo for these rounds as well to make sure you can fight off the horde.
More to come…
So it begins…
This blog will chronical the battle of N3RDI3 and his die hard crew as we fight to beat the dirty dirty horde in Gears of War 2 on the XBOX 360. Our goal is to beat the horde as a team. We have played over 200 games so far and have yet to beat the horde (all 50 waves). This journal is going to track what works for us on different maps and what obviously didn’t work. We seem to be learning by trial and error…
Starting over
The http://horde.n3rdi3.com site is going through a little revamping. This requires that my old posts be re-added to the site. Hopefully this doesn’t cause too much trouble.
